The problem

Every custom shop has the same quoting problem.

01

Your pricing lives in one person's head

When your best estimator retires or leaves, your institutional pricing knowledge walks out with them. Every shop has this problem. Almost none have fixed it. That single point of failure is your most fragile business asset.

02

Every quote steals hours you don't have

Pulling dimensions, researching material costs, estimating setups, tallying machine time across six operations — a single complex quote takes 2–4 hours done manually. That's time you should be making things, not writing spreadsheets.

03

Complex jobs get priced by gut feel

When a job has eight processes, three materials, and two outside operations, most shops price it with intuition. Some you win and make money. Some you win and lose money. There's no way to know which until it's too late.

The platform

Quote a complex job in 12 minutes. Not 4 hours.

How it works

Up and running in minutes. No onboarding call required.

01

Build your rate card

Enter your labor rate, machine costs, overhead multiplier, and markup in one session. RateBuilder walks you through it. Your pricing model is ready in 5 minutes — and every quote you write is built on it.

02

Describe the job

Type what needs to be made — material, dimensions, tolerances, quantity, finish. Plain English. The more detail you give, the tighter the quote. No templates. No drop-downs. No rigid forms.

03

Review the line items

PriceFab breaks the job into process line items, estimates hours per operation, and prices every line against your rate card. Overhead and markup applied automatically. Edit anything before you send.

04

Export and send

Download a clean PDF with your shop name, itemised line items, and a clear total. Track whether you won or lost the job. Every quote you write makes the next one faster.

Frequently asked

Quoting, pricing, and shop-rate questions.

Straight answers for solo fabricators and small shops deciding whether PriceFab fits their workflow.

What is job shop quoting software?

Job shop quoting software helps custom manufacturers, fabricators, and machine shops turn a job description or drawing into a line-item quote built on their real shop rates. Instead of rebuilding every estimate from scratch in a spreadsheet, you store your labor rates, machine rates, and markup once — then generate consistent quotes in minutes. PriceFab is built specifically for solo fabricators and small shops under 10 people.

How do I set my shop rate as a small fabricator?

Your shop rate is labor cost plus overhead plus profit, divided by billable hours. For a solo fabricator, the quick math is: add up your annual overhead (rent, utilities, insurance, tooling), add the income you need, divide by realistic billable hours (usually 1,200–1,600 per year, not 2,080), and that is your minimum shop rate. Most solo shops land between $85 and $140 per hour. PriceFab walks you through this in RateBuilder so every quote uses real numbers, not gut feel.

What is the difference between a quote and an estimate?

A quote is a firm price commitment — if the customer accepts it, that is what they pay. An estimate is an informed guess that can change as the job clarifies. Quotes protect you legally and set customer expectations. For custom fabrication and CNC work, always send a quote with clear scope, validity period, and exclusions — not a loose estimate.

How much does PriceFab cost?

PriceFab starts free for up to 3 quotes per month. Paid plans begin at $49/month for solo contractors (unlimited quotes, PDF export, DrawingBrief analysis) and $149/month for shops with small teams. The first 50 customers lock in founding member pricing for life.

Does PriceFab store my CAD files or drawings?

No. PriceFab analyzes CAD files, DXFs, and PDFs in memory and discards them immediately. Only extracted metadata — feature lists, process types, dimensions — is saved to your account. Your IP, geometry, and customer drawings are never written to disk or database.

What manufacturing processes does PriceFab handle?

PriceFab is built for custom manufacturers who run mixed processes: CNC machining (mill, lathe, Swiss), welding and fabrication (MIG, TIG, stick), sheet metal (laser, plasma, press brake), assembly, finishing, and inspection. You configure the rates and processes in RateBuilder, and QuoteBuilder uses them to build line-item quotes for any job type.

How is PriceFab different from Paperless Parts or JobBoss?

Paperless Parts and JobBoss are enterprise ERPs built for shops of 20+ people with dedicated estimators. They are expensive, slow to deploy, and overbuilt for solo contractors and sub-10-person shops. PriceFab is the opposite: built specifically for solo fabricators and small shops, usable in under 30 minutes, and priced so the first paying quote covers the monthly cost.

How long does it take to quote a job with PriceFab?

Most quotes take under 10 minutes, down from 2–4 hours in a spreadsheet. Describe the job in plain English or upload a drawing, pick your rate card, and PriceFab returns a line-item breakdown you can adjust, export as a PDF, and send.
